Howrah
It is impossible to see such a city in two days. One area on first glance was captivaing, and I spent much of my time there. The WW2 Howrah Bridge is the utilitarian icon of the city. On one end is the excitment of the fine Edwardian Howrah Train Station. At the other, the chaotic and literally colorful flower market. On the banks of the river below the bridge is the life of the ghats, the intersection of people and water so important in India. The combined energies of commerce, transport, architecture and water was irrestible.
