Meteora

Having glimpsed the monastic life on Mt. Athos, we got a closer view in the visually spectacular and more tourist-friendly area of Meteora. There, six monasteries perch atop the crags of a very unusual rock formation in the otherwise normal landscape of central Greece. Although it was a last minute decision to come to Meteora, it made a perfect bookend (the book being "Architecture Without Architects") for a trip that began in Cappadocia.
