Our first trip to Greece, in 1992, was spent almost entirely on the island of Sifnos, a six hour ferry ride south of Athens. Without an airport and with few cars, one could imagine the relaxing charm of being on a Greek island in the pre-mass-travel age conjured by the writers of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
