Turkey is rich in ancient Greek and Roman sites. But, unlike some of the impressive sites of the Levant here and here and here, all have been ravaged by earthquakes and subsequent inhabitants looking for building stone and iron pins. What is left, like the iconic library facade at Ephesus, are difficult reconstructions infrequently done. One must try a little harder here, but that overwhelming glory of the ancient mediterranean world can still be imagined.
