Cusco was the "navel" of the ancient Inca world and is the heart of modern Quechua culture. It is small, walkable, and human-scaled. Beneath its current buildings and occasionally exposed within them, are the magnificent stones of the ancient capital that was dismantled and buried by the conquering Spaniards.
