Our farm in Napa is on a high plateau at the edge of Rector Canyon, feeding into the reservoir that serves Yountville and the Veterans Home on the Napa Valley floor. The bottom of the canyon is probably one of the most inaccessible, and primeval spots in the county. Our recent climb, from the top of the gorge to a pool about a third of the way between us and the reservoir took 9 hours there and back. Hiking all the way to the reservoir, I am told, is a 12 hour trip.
