We have a weekend place in the hills east of the Napa Valley. It was truely remote when we arrived 30 years ago,. But with each passing season the megalopolis we escape on the weekend, and the good-life lust that brought us here, expands around us. Several years ago a developer proposed a tourist attraction on the property next door. After a battle, it didn't happen, but we know that our bit of paradise, like every rural corner of Napa County, will eventually be gone. Not, I hope, before we are.
