New York City
We've managed to visit New York City several times, usually stopping for a day or two on the way to or from someplace else. Mui was a regular visitor, and student, in her youth. My first time I thought that if this is the definition of city, then the rest of the world was just a collection of towns. You can find overwhelming compressed vertical humanity in most cities now, but here it goes on for miles. While I grouse about the seeming chaos of so much happening in one place at one time, once we have a calm place to shelter, the convenience of its transit system and the vast wealth of cultural amenities and an always-surprising level of civility, make it seem almost livable.
